Joel Freedman

Joel Freedman is an innovative entrepreneur who has co-founded and led several successful healthcare companies. Before becoming a prominent figure in the healthcare industry, Joel founded Paladin Investment Banking, specializing in transaction services for financially distressed businesses, particularly in healthcare. Under his leadership, Paladin completed over 200 transactions totaling more than $4 billion, including numerous acquisitions, recapitalizations, and divestitures.

Joel later served as the founder and CEO of Paladin Healthcare, overseeing the operations of seven hospitals generating more than $1.2 billion in annual revenue, including Howard University Hospital. Notably, six of these hospitals were owned by Joel’s affiliates, highlighting his role as both a leader and owner in revitalizing underperforming healthcare systems.

He also co-founded CompWest Insurance, a workers’ compensation insurer that was acquired by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

For over two decades, Joel has been deeply involved in shaping the U.S. healthcare landscape. He was a founding member of the Healthcare Policy Advisory Council for Harvard Medical School and served as Chairman of Harvard’s Healthcare Markets and Regulations Lab. He also served on the boards of the Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics at the University of Southern California, Children’s Bureau of Southern California, and AltaMed Health Services, one of the largest FQHC operators in the U.S.

Joel’s accomplishments have earned him numerous awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Congressional Black Caucus and National Minority Quality Forum, recognizing his efforts to eliminate healthcare disparities.

Ravi Sharma

CEO, Livity Healthcare Management

Ravi Sharma is among the healthcare industry’s leading information technology experts.

Early in his career, he led the implementation of GE Healthcare’s CRM initiative, GE Cares.

He was recruited by Toshiba America Medical Systems to head up its US Operations, developing its North American strategy and dramatically growing its diagnostic imaging business in a declining market. He then returned to GE Healthcare to serve as General Manager of its Northeast operation, transforming the zone from the worst to best performer among its five regional divisions in less than a year. He was handpicked to be the first Global Director of GE’s Six Sigma business, where he established and managed its worldwide strategy.

Ravi left GE to serve as CEO of three early-stage healthcare technology companies, each of which he built into successful operations providing cloud-based clinical integration solutions to a wide range of healthcare companies.

He subsequently served as CTO and COO for a large health system encompassing seven hospitals. Ravi served as the CEO of Peritus Advisors, which implemented operations and technology solutions for numerous hospitals and health systems.

Teryna Brown

COO, Livity Healthcare Management

Teryna Brown brings over two decades of healthcare operations and transaction expertise to Livity. She launched her healthcare career with a private equity firm, where she led hospital mergers and acquisitions, focusing on stabilizing financially challenged facilities. Over the past decade, she has held various C-suite positions, including CEO, COO, and CHRO, primarily in turnaround situations.

She has a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of hospital operations, human resources, labor management, and union negotiations, including a proven track record in enhancing physician engagement, fostering collaboration, improving patient outcomes, and optimizing labor costs through increased efficiency and flexibility. She has also successfully renegotiated multiple union contracts.

Before her healthcare career, Teryna amassed over 20 years of finance experience at Connecticut Capital Management and Bridgewater Associates. As the founder of “Where the Roads Come Together,” she developed an extensive network of non-profit and venture capitalist contacts, showcasing her expertise in grant writing and fundraising.

Dr. Shirley Evers-Manly

Dr. Shirley Evers-Manly, PhD, RN, ADNL, FAAN, is a distinguished healthcare leader with over 40 years of experience in hospital administration, clinical development, and academic leadership. She has held prestigious titles such as Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Services at Howard University Hospital, where she led significant operational and quality improvements, and Managing Director of Clinical Development at Paladin Healthcare, overseeing clinical operations across all Paladin-managed hospitals.
 
Dr. Evers-Manly also served as Dean of the School of Nursing at Alcorn State University, advancing her commitment to nursing education and leadership. Throughout her career, including her time at the University of California, San Francisco, School of Nursing, she has spearheaded programs addressing the needs of vulnerable populations and public health IT, serving as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator on multiple grants, including those funded through the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology and the American Rescue Plan.
 
In addition to her academic and clinical leadership roles, Dr. Evers-Manly is deeply involved with the National Black Nurses Association, where she leads Global Health Initiatives, serves as First Vice President, and chairs the Finance Committee. Her accolades include induction into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing's Inaugural Leadership Hall of Fame, recognition for Outstanding Community Service by the California State Senate and the United States Congress, and membership in the National Black Nurses Association Academy of Diversity Nurse Leaders. A Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, Dr. Evers-Manly is internationally acclaimed for her contributions to academia, oncology, and the elimination of health disparities worldwide.
